Maisha Joshua
A native New Orleanian, Maisha Joshua is an emerging ceramicist who develops intuitive pottery grounded in red and brown clays, organic forms, and hand carving.
After two decades away from pottery, she began taking classes at Byrdies, a local pottery studio in her neighborhood. Her passion for pottery reignited, she was appointed a member of the studio. She quickly began to build a body of work, becoming known for her love of red clay and ability to learn new techniques.
She is currently a member of New Orleans Clay Collective, a pottery studio that she and three other members started in September 2021 after realizing they had similar interests around community access to working with clay.
Now that she is one of the owners of a collective space where her comfort as an artist has grown, she is exploring new techniques and directions as she continues to refine her skills as a ceramicist. In her most recent pieces, she is exploring more patterns and bold color markings in her work.
